Ernie Bastin • Trumpet & Percussion

ErnieErnie is Professor Emeritus of Trumpet at Ohio University and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from West Virginia University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois. He is currently working part-time in the School of Music teaching jazz improvisation and brass methods. Ernie has performed as Principal Trumpet in the Ohio Valley Symphony and Co-Principal Trumpet in the Michiana Brass Quintet, Ernie has also performed with the Les and Larry Elgart Orchestra, Dick Schory’s Percussion Pops, Holiday on Ice, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Bob Hope and Nancy Wilson. He has also performed with the University of Illinois Contemporary Chamber Players and in the Festival of Trumpets Concerts at the International Trumpet Guild Conference. His recordings include “Computer Music”, “Gestures for 11,” and “Trumpet Music of the Baroque.” In addition to the Jazztet, Ernie performs regularly with the Los Viejos Blanquitos and is sposored by the Selmer Company.

Guy Remonko • Drums & Percussion

GuyGuy is Emeritus Professor of Percussion at Ohio Univeristy and teaches part-time in the percussion area. As a drumset artist he has performed with a variety of well-known artists including Pearl Baily, Diane Schuur, Eddie Daniels, Marvin Stamm, Gene Bertoncini and Bucky Pizzarelli. He has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic and Montreal Symphony Orchestra and has appeared on a number of National Public Radio broadcasts. In addition to serving on the faculty of the Summer Drumset Workshop since 1980, other teaching endeavors have included articles for Modern Drummer, Percussive Notes and The Instrumentalist magazine. Remonko is a two-time recipientof the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers Award and also serves as an artist/clinician for Yamaha Drums and the Avedis Zildjian Company. In addition to the Jazztet, Guy also performs regularly with Los Viejos Blanquitos and Dwight Lenox’s Lenox Avenue Express.

Matt James • Saxophone

MattMatt is Associate Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Ohio University, teaching saxophone, jazz theory, jazz arranging, and directs the jazz ensembles. Matt holds undergraduate degrees from Northern Illinois University, and the M.M. and D.M.A. in saxophone performance from the University of North Texas, where he was a teaching fellow and lead alto saxophonist with the acclaimed One O’Clock Lab Band. Matt has performed as lead alto saxophonist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, touring the U.S., Canada, Japan and South America. He has also performed as lead alto saxophonist with the Phil Collins Big Band, Mel Torme, the Temptations, Lou Rawls, Donna Summer, The Four Tops, Rosemary Clooney, the Four Freshmen, and many others. He has also performed with Columbus, Ohio-based ensembles, the New Remnants Jazz Orchestra and the Famous Jazz Orchestra, and is a member of the Latin Jazz sextet, Los Viejos Blanquitos.

John Horne • Guitar

JohnJohn is Adjunct Professor of Guitar at the University of Rio Grande and a runs a bustling private teaching practice. John holds a B.M. in guitar performance form Duquesne University School of Music in Pittsburgh and has taught classes and workshops for Ohio University, the National Guitar Workshop, Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp, and Athens Community Music School. John has participated in master classes and workshops with artists such as Douglas Niedt, Emily Remler, Harry Connick Jr., Michael Hedges, Steve Vai, Mike Stern, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, and Pat Metheny. In addition to performing regularly with the Jazztet and as a soloist, he has performed with the Ohio University New Music Ensemble, the Ohio University Symphonic Band, The Local Girls, and at Cedar Point Amusement Park.

Terry Douds • Bass

TerryTerry works as a Broadcast Technician for Ohio University teaching audio courses for the OU/Lancaster Branch Campus Electronic Media Program and is a sought after bass instructor, performer, clinician, and engineer/producer. A 1979 graduate of The Ohio State University, Terry performed on four award-winning albums with The OSU Jazz Ensemble. In 1980, he joined The Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Jimmy Henderson and also began performing with pianist Carmen Cavallaro, touring throughout the United States, the Dominican Republic, Korea, and Japan. He has also performed as bassist for the The Woody Herman Orchestra, The Ink Spots, The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, The Mills Brothers, The Four Aces, Dick Dale, and Myron Floren. In addition to the Jazztet, operates Cojazz Recordings, Ltd., an independent record label for Jazz and Classical music.
